How many couples marry in the Czech Republic each year, in which months and on which days of the week, and at what age? Every figure on this page comes from the Czech Statistical Office (Český statistický úřad – ČSÚ), with the reference year noted alongside each dataset.

How many couples marry in the Czech Republic
In 2025, residents of the Czech Republic entered into 42 548 marriages according to preliminary ČSÚ figures — 1 938 fewer than the year before. Marriages fell for the third consecutive year, reaching the lowest level since the end of the First World War. The previous modern low of 43 499 marriages was set in 2013.
| Year | Number of marriages |
|---|---|
| 2019 | 54 870 |
| 2020 | 45 415 |
| 2021 | 46 778 |
| 2022 | 54 820 |
| 2023 | 48 268 |
| 2024 | 44 486 |
| 2025 (preliminary) | 42 548 |
The ČSÚ links the sharp drop in 2020 and 2021 to pandemic restrictions on public gatherings. In 2022 marriages rebounded almost to 2019 levels, and have declined each year since.
Which months are most popular for Czech weddings
In 2024, 64,0 % of all weddings took place between June and September. June was the single busiest month (8 859), followed closely by August and September. January was the quietest month with just 772. More than eleven times as many couples married in June as in January.

| January | 772 | 1,7 % |
| February | 1 246 | 2,8 % |
| March | 1 353 | 3,0 % |
| April | 3 246 | 7,3 % |
| May | 3 486 | 7,8 % |
| June | 8 859 | 19,9 % |
| July | 5 447 | 12,2 % |
| August | 7 765 | 17,5 % |
| September | 6 402 | 14,4 % |
| October | 3 240 | 7,3 % |
| November | 1 633 | 3,7 % |

For 2025, the ČSÚ first published quarterly totals: between July and September alone there were 18 707 weddings, representing 44 % of the entire year.
What this means for your planning
Most couples want a summer date, so venues and suppliers for Saturdays in June, August, and September book out first. If you have your heart set on summer, lock in your venue and date before anything else. April, May, and October are noticeably quieter — if you don't mind spring or autumn, ask venues whether off-peak rates apply.
Which days of the week weddings take place
In 2024, 66,0 % of couples married on a Saturday and 22,0 % on a Friday. The other five days of the week combined accounted for roughly 12 % of weddings. On the single busiest Saturday of the year, 24. srpna, 1 672 couples got married.
| Date | Number of marriages |
|---|---|
| Saturday 24 August | 1 672 |
| Saturday 22 June | 1 609 |
| Saturday 7 September | 1 460 |
| Friday 21 June | 467 |
| Friday 14 June | 448 |
On weekdays, dates with memorable number patterns stand out. The busiest Thursday of the year was 8. 8. 2024 (192 weddings) and the busiest Wednesday was 24. 4. 2024 (198).
What this means for your planning
Friday is the most practical alternative to Saturday: it is the second most popular wedding day, yet competition for venues and photographers is much lower — and many venues offer lower Friday hire rates. Conversely, for palindrome or repeating-number dates like 8. 8., expect high demand even mid-week.
At what age people marry in the Czech Republic
In 2024, the average age at first marriage was 32.9 years for men and 30.8 years for women — both the highest figures ever recorded by the ČSÚ. Back in 2015, the averages stood at 32.4 and 29.8 years.
Across all grooms (including remarriages), the largest five-year bracket was 30–34 (25 % of all grooms). Among brides, the largest group was aged 25–29 (26 %). Almost half of everyone getting married (47 %) was between 25 and 34 years old.
What this means for your planning
Marrying in your thirties is now the norm rather than the exception in Czechia — if relatives tell you that “everyone else is already married”, the statistics say otherwise.
First vs repeat marriages and international couples
Three out of four brides and grooms marry for the first time. In 2024, that applied to 74,5 % of grooms and 74,7 % of brides. In 65,2 % of weddings both partners were marrying for the first time, and in 14,4 % both were divorced. Most of the rest involved one single and one divorced partner.
In 15,0 % of weddings in 2024, at least one partner held non-Czech citizenship (6 692 marriages). Czech brides most frequently married Slovak, German, and Ukrainian citizens, while Czech grooms most frequently married Slovak, Ukrainian, and Russian citizens.
What this means for your planning
If either of you has been married before, the registry office (matrika) will ask for proof that the previous marriage ended, unless it can verify this in Czech records itself. Documents issued abroad require appropriate authentication (such as an apostille) and an official translation into Czech — both take time, so start the paperwork early.
Marriages by region
The ČSÚ assigns marriages to regions by the groom's registered residence rather than the location of the ceremony venue. The table therefore shows where couples live, not where wedding receptions are held.
| Region | Number of marriages |
|---|---|
| Prague | 6 189 |
| Central Bohemia | 5 658 |
| South Bohemia | 2 684 |
| Plzeň Region | 2 561 |
| Karlovy Vary Region | 1 210 |
| Ústí nad Labem Region | 3 399 |
| Liberec Region | 1 815 |
| Hradec Králové Region | 2 270 |
| Pardubice Region | 2 107 |
| Vysočina Region | 1 985 |
| South Moravia | 5 044 |
| Olomouc Region | 2 419 |
| Zlín Region | 2 229 |
| Moravia-Silesia | 4 916 |
| Czech Republic total | 44 486 |
In every region, June was the busiest month and January the quietest. In Prague, December had just as few weddings as January.
How to read these figures
- The statistics cover Czech citizens and foreign nationals with registered residence in Czechia, as well as marriages of Czech citizens concluded abroad and registered with the Special Registry Office (Zvláštní matrika) in Brno.
- The 2025 headline total comes from the preliminary ČSÚ report published on 31 March 2026. Although the ČSÚ has since published detailed 2025 tables, the monthly, daily, age, and regional breakdowns on this page currently reflect full-year 2024 data.
- The share of civil vs church ceremonies is not published in the ČSÚ releases cited here, so we do not include it.
- We do not publish an “average Czech wedding cost”. Wedding spending is not part of official ČSÚ statistics, and commercial survey figures vary widely depending on who ran the survey and whom they asked.
